Hello everyone,

I proudly announce that the new AVChat Integration kits for Joomla! build 2740 have been released.

This new build solves all the problems we have encountered so far and in some cases the code has been completely rewritten. Also, we made sure each line of code was tested and reviewed.

Once we’ve done all that we’ve updated the documentation to better cover the Components and Modules.

Here’s the list of new features and bug fixes.

New Features

Joomla! 1.5:

  • The component will now detect mobile devices and deliver the mobile version of AVChat 3;
  • Included contextual messages during installation to guide user through a clean install;
  • Registered users do not see the Register & Login tab during AVChat’s login screen;
  • We’ve replaced the old embed code (based on OBJECT tags) with swfoject. You will now benefit from Flash Player and JavaScript detection and see a contextual error message in case they’re missing;
  • Flash Player 11.1 is now required by the embed code inside the Joomla! Component. Recent AVChat builds  (Build 2471) need Flash Player 11.1;

Joomla! 2.5 – 3.x:

  • We replaced the old JS way of detecting mobile devices with a PHP based library that will better detect mobile devices;
  • J! 3.x: The component will now detect mobile devices and deliver the mobile version of AVChat 3; This feature existed already in the J! 2.5 Component.
  • We have included a series of new contextual messages during the installation process to help guide the site owner or administrator to the next step in getting AVChat running on a Joomla! website;
  • A new code for icon and notification updates has been included making use of AVChat 3’s notification API. Now, when users switch tabs or browser windows, the favicon and windopw title will be updated with the number of unread messages:

  • As you all know, the AVChat login window contains two tabs: Register and Sign In tab and Enter Chat tab; until now everyone could see both of the tabs. In order to make a clear distinction between the registered users and unregistered users, the Register and Sign In tab is now visible only for unregistered users; Here’s how it looks now for logged in members (no more Register and Sign In tab):

  • We have implemented a new way to detect the two most popular social networking plugins JomSocial and Community Builder: If only one of the two components is installed, AVChat will automatically use it. No backend configuration required. If both plugins are detected then the admin must manually select in the AVChat’s administration menu in the Joomla! backend which of the two components have priority in AVChat. If both plugins are detected and the backend option  is left to it’s default (auto) then none of the 2 plugins will be used.
  • We’ve replaced the old embed code (based on OBJECT tags) with swfoject. You will now benefit from Flash Player and JavaScript detection and see a contextual error message in case they’re missing;
  • Flash Player 11.1 is now required by the embed code inside the Joomla! Component. Recent AVChat builds  (Build 2471) need Flash Player 11.1;
  • For a better experience and for a better understanding of our chat settings we have rewritten some of the names and tooltips of some settings.

Bug Fixes:

Joomla! 1.5:

  • The Strict Standards error messages that appeared when the Error Reporting setting was configured to allow warnings and errors on the server, were solved.

Joomla! 2.5 – 3.x:

  • The issue regarding the always disabled IgnorePMs button has now been solved;
  • We have solved the issue with the popup button image setting from backend not being used. Administrators can now use any image to replace the text link in the popup button;
  • Some of you may have some of the PHP error reporting settings turned on and as a result you may have received some Strict Standards messages. We have now fixed the code inside the components that produced these messages;
  • J! 3.x only: The field that was necessary in order to connect with Facebook – the Facebook ID field has been added in the AVChat administration menu in Joomla! backend; This feature existed already in the J! 2.5 Component.
  • Fixed issues with AVChat not showing correctly in the frontend when the connectionstring setting was empty;
  • J! 2.5: Fixed issue with drop in room not working when AVChat was set to open in a pop up.
